How you'll make a difference

At South Gloucestershire Council we are immensely proud of the skills, abilities, and compassion of all our social workers and wider team members – demonstrated even more so during the pandemic.  As a Team Manager you will provide support, recognition, guidance, and professional oversight to team members within your practice area.

We are pleased to say that we provide an Ofsted rated 'Good' service, our Ofsted report can be viewed here; we are seeking additional driven professionals to help us to collectively maintain and build on this for the ongoing betterment of the children and young people of South Gloucestershire.

We are looking for a talented strong and ambitious leader to join our strong management group within our wider Children in Care Service to lead one of our care leaver team.

This role would see you manage a team of personal assistants (PA’s) who are allocated a mixture of young adult (18+) care leavers, where the PA’s are the primary worker, as well Children in Care (16+), where the PA’s work alongside social workers in the Children in Care (CiC) part of our service as we prepare them for transitions into adulthood. A part of the cohort of young adults care leavers we work with includes young adults who were formerly Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) and who have either been granted settled status or continue to have their asylum claims processed by the Home Office.

If you are either a current Team Manager, looking to develop their practice in a different practice area or an experienced practitioner with supervisory experience looking for their progression into management, this is an exciting opportunity to develop your career further.

Experience of working with both children and adults, and familiarity with legislation and practice in both areas would be extremely beneficial for any applicant. In particular it would be beneficial to have familiarity with the adult safeguarding processes and thresholds, within the specific context of being a corporate parent for our young adults until they are 25.

What will you be doing?

You will have the usual targets to achieve, but you will also have a very supportive leadership team around you, that are always accessible from the very top down.  You will be a natural leader and able to get the best out of your colleagues and team members as we continue to implement further improvements across our services.

We are looking for a team manager capable of leading a team of skilled personal assistants

  • First and foremost, as a supportive manager you will be able to get the best from your team members whilst ensuring they are fully supported and know how valued they are.
  • Ensuring a focus on the individual and assisting in personal and professional development through the several available pathways and programmes offered by our Children’s Services.
  • You will lead and oversee a consistently good service to these young adult care leavers, and our children in care approaching adulthood - ensuring specialist assessment and support is undertaken and delivered effectively to improve the outcomes and life opportunities for this cohort.

What we need from you

  • You will be a qualified social worker, currently registered with Social Work England with experience in a relevant setting, such as Corporate Parenting or Social Care that must include experience of management of staff, and supervision of other professionals.
  • You will be able to evidence your ability to lead teams to achieve optimum performance in delivering excellent social care services for children.
  • You will have evidence of on-going continuous professional development and a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to children and young people’s services.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a USAC or young adult asylum seekers would be desirable.

Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.

You will be required to travel widely to a range of locations within the Authority so you must have a current driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle insured for business use.
